ANUSARA YOGA®

Anusara means "flowing with Grace" or "following your heart."

It is a spiritually inspiring, therapeutically effective and a physically transforming style of hatha yoga.

Developed by John Friend, Anusara Yoga® certification is among the most professional and demanding in the world, requiring many years of training. The Anusara-inspired Yoga Teacher™ status is one of the steps along the path towards certification.

Key aspects of Anusara yoga are the non-dualistic, uplifting Tantric philosophy, the Universal Principles of Alignment™ and a strong sense of community.

Tantric philosophy celebrates the human spirit. Tantra says, we are not imperfect beings looking for the Divine, but that we are already Divine beings and can learn to see the Divine light within ourselves and others. The emphasis is on creative freedom, individuality and seeking to see the good in all people and all things.

The Universal Principles of Alignment™ are clear and elegant principles that allow the body, breath and spirit to align for optimal strength, freedom and joy, so that these qualities can radiate into every aspect of our lives.

Community, or "Kula" is about connecting to the Universal, seeing ourselves as a part of the big picture, and understanding that our contribution is meaningful. Our own well-being is intrinsically linked to the well-being of everything and everyone around us.

Anusara yoga seeks to help students discover their potential and unveil their innate goodness, worthiness and Divine nature.

What is Yoga?

Yoga describes generally a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India. The word "Yoga" means "to unite".

Hatha Yoga is a practical system of self-development comprising of physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation which combined, balance our physical, mental and spiritual energies.

The postures stretch, strengthen and tone the muscles, joints and spine. They also stimulate internal organs, glands and neural pathways. Both physical and mental tension are released, liberating and harmonising vast resources of energy called "Prana". Breathing exercises calm the mind and cleanse the system. Meditation brings increased clarity and inner peace.

Practicing yoga deepens our awareness of the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit, and as this sense of integration ("unity" - yoga! ) grows, our lives begin to flow with more ease: we are able to ride the currents of life.
